Roger Thomas Reappointment to the PFMC
May 1, 2004

SAC NEEDS YOUR HELP!!
PLEASE SEND A LETTER OF SUPPORT
FOR THE REAPPOINTMENT OF ROGER THOMAS
TO THE SEAT ON THE PFMC!!

Captain Roger Thomas has served recreational anglers in California in an exemplary fashion during his first two terms on the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC), and he is up for reappointment. Unfortunately, Roger has quite a bit of competition, including the representative of the west coast bottom trawl fleet, the representative of the high seas drift gill net fleet, and a member of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). At the present time, the Council has two other recreational representatives on the PFMC from California, Don Hansen and Darryl Ticehearst, and the commercial industries are arguing that there needs to be more balance between sport and commercial from California. They conveniently forget all the years when the balance was overwhelmingly in their favor! The appointment will be made in the next 60 days, and so we need to launch a letter-writing campaign on behalf of Roger, if we are to get him back on the PFMC! CLICK HERE FOR SAMPLE LETTER

That’s where you come in, as if we get enough support, both from anglers and from members of Congress, we will get the appointment. I have attached a sample so as to help you draft a letter. Please use your own words if possible, on your letterhead if you have it, and if you can send a copy of your letter to your member of Congress with a request that he or she also write a letter of support, that would be by far the best!

We should hear something publicly by near the end of June, so we don’t have too much time. Finally, if you could send me a copy of your letter I would really appreciate that.

Hope you have been able to enjoy the fishing this spring, and if not get ready cause they are just around the corner. In fact, they are at the Channel Islands right now!!

Thanks, Bob Fletcher, President
