Sign-Up Now to Participate in Vital MLPA Survey on Recreational Fishing

As part of the Implementation of the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA), Ecotrust is conducting a survey of where recreational anglers fish along the south coast of California. The project is designed to provide socioeconomic information to the MLPA Initiative and the information collected in this project will improve upon what is currently available regarding recreational fisheries. Your participation is vital to ensure that the areas anglers value the most remain open to recreational fishing.

To register, visit http://www.ecotrust.org/mlpa/interview_signup. You may also register by contacting Jon Bonkoski at 503.467.0804.

During the summer months of 2008 (June through August) Ecotrust personnel will use both in-person interviews and a web-based survey to interview approximately 700 recreational fishermen along the south coast of California. For the personal interviews, Ecotrust personnel will contact fishermen directly and arrange for interviews. All information collected in the interviews is anonymous and confidential on the individual level.

SAC's membership includes over 175 open-party and charter boats ranging in length from 45 to 120 feet and running from 23 different landings, as well as carrying between 700,000 and 1 million passengers a year to local coastal banks and islands, and into Mexican waters. The monetary investment in this huge fleet totals close to $80 million, with shoreside support facilities for the fleet employing about 4,000 persons.
